ESL 433 Week 4: ELL Classroom Observation Using SIOP

Order Description

Chapter3 p.51 of attached text is the mentioned checklist. Attaching.
For this assignment, observe, and assess at least one lesson involving ELLs using the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) checklist in Sheltered Content Instruction: Teaching English Learners with Diverse Abilities.

Submit a copy of the checklist with a 250-word reflection on this experience. Address the following questions in your reflection:
1.Were the students aware of the class language and content objectives?
2.How did the teacher instruct the content and language objectives?
3.What type of student group configurations were used? How many different types of student configurations were used?
4.How did the teacher accommodate for different ELP levels?

Overview
Assessment task 2 asks you to respond to a case study topic of your choice (see Topics below). Your paper should be no more than 1500 words (max.). As you would expect, this assignment builds on your understanding of concepts and principles covered in the first two modules through extension to material covered in modules three and four. Like Assessment task 1, it draws upon your ability to think critically about the issues, apply your learning to the practice context and communicate your ideas in a professional manner. Details regarding weighting, due date etc. are shown below.
Topics for Assessment task 2
For Assessment task 2, choose one of the followingtopics:
TOPIC 1
You are assigned to care for Ms Kathy Brown, a 50 year old journalist, who has had a hysterectomy. She is currently 2 days post surgery, but is mobilising very slowly and appears to be in some pain. Kathy was receiving Morphine via a PCA pump for 24 hours and, on review of her pain scores, this was providing adequate pain relief. When you ask how her pain has been, Kathy tells you that her pain was 3.5 at rest but 7 on mobilisation. You realise that her pain scores were only taken at rest, not during movement, which possibly explains why the PCA was discontinued.  Kathy is currently prescribed Paracetamol 500mg x 2 tabs 4hrly PRN, and Diclofenac supp. 25mg 8 hrly PRN. Since discontinuation of her PCA pump Kathy has received 1 dose of Paracetamol and 1 Diclofenac suppository.
Outline how you would address Kathy’s pain management giving arguments for your key points which are supported by evidence from the literature.
TOPIC 2
Anne Easterwood aggravated a back injury sustained at work and now lives with chronic pain. Her story is outlined in a brief report by A Current Affair which is available at http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/article/8782110/chronic-pain-relief.
Imagine you are working as a Practice Nurse in the clinic that Anne regularly visits. Outline the advice that you would give Anne to assist her in managing her pain giving arguments for your key points which are supported by evidence from the literature.
TOPIC 3
You are caring for Mr Bill Smith is an 89-year old gentleman who is being cared for in a long-term care facility. He has moderate (middle stage) Alzheimer’s Disease and a history of osteoarthritis which limits his mobility. His daughter visits frequently and is concerned about his pain which is currently being managed with Paracetamol administered on a PRN basis.
Outline the key steps that you would take to review Mr Smith’s current pain management plan giving arguments for your key points which are supported by evidence from the literature.
